it'd be all-good. It was a bit heavy after that, but no worse than our Mini used to be!

yeah, I did that (and failed WOF) but if I reckon if you did it cleanly enough for them not to notice (tidily cap the lines coming from the rack, and not just tie them outof the way like I didThis link may help, but once depowered you most likely fail w.o.f.

Manuel racks are like rocking horse poo's,Sad thing is about 8-9 years ago when P/Steer conversions sold like hot cakes we didn't want the old non P/Steer racks back !!,
Check www.miataroadster.com ,they had depower kits for $50.00 usd,At the very least it's a damn good site for everything you can imagine for these cars from all over the world.
But yes depowered racks are a WOF fail.

Also, i have depowered mine, left no visible hoses, plugged the holes with treaded caps.painted it and fitted a custom splash -guard so from underneath the rack is hidden!
Will nervously be going to get WOF sometime soon.
Will report the outcome!

The manual is slightly different ratio to make it easier to turn without power assist.blackbetty wrote:how do the manual compare to a depowered rack?wich would you prefer?
Manual steering ratio: 18.0:1
Power assist: 15.0:1
Steering wheel turns, lock-to-lock: 3.3 Manual
Power assist: 2.8
Like Wide Open Throttle I have done the full depower as per FM instructions and have neatly plugged all the holes. So far have gone through 2 wof's without comment. I guess it will depend on where you take it and who does the inspection beause the extra effort required to turn the wheel at low speeds is quite noticeable.
