Better engine technology and the story of a happy clutch.
Hard times....
I got sick of low boost, a slipping clutch type situation, turbo lag, fasteners coming loose, 'lunched' my forth NA gearbox and have got the "just not satisfied with my engines power output" feeling, so have got some parts and done some machining;
New clutch set up,
Heavy duty G box from an NB ( big thanks here to Mark Brown at Mazline in ChCh!),
Rebuilt turbo with famous herbs and spicyness, port matched and over sized exhaust manifold, turbo stud set with nordlok fasteners and ported/ over sized TD04 turbine housing.
Have to put the clutch and box in, but the power increase from the above work spelt out the current clutch and gear boxes doom
Custom crankshaft work and flash bottom end stuff coming soon.

Tires aren't cheap!
Tasty! I had a paddle clutch in one of my old cars, you soon get used to them and they make for a fast change!
Love the seat cushion packaging
Whats the difference in the NB gearboxes that makes them stronger? What was it that kept blowing in the NA box?
Also, whats the car in the picture of the gearbox with the neat white letter tyres?

I am looking forward to trying out this clutch as it is the only choice before a twin plate set up and another $1000nz or so. I have got a 4kg flywheel for this as well, skillful lathe use there.dynofiend wrote:Tasty! I had a paddle clutch in one of my old cars, you soon get used to them and they make for a fast change!

Mark at Mazline did a fantastic job packing this one up! Also he is sending me a brand new shifter boot, as this one was a bit worse for wear. Top service!
The difference in the boxes are the case thickness and the bigger sized input shaft bearing you can machine them up to carry.
What fails? input shaft bearing craps out due to additional unpredicted torque loading.... then that provides excessive endfloat of the input shaft....then the gear teeth get a little to much backlash....etc etc
The car is a Mopar '67 Valiant. Looks nice?

Yep thanks for that! I hope the team at the distribution center get what they are after.
The Mopar is a friends treasure, that I have the pleasure of tidying up and ironing out a few creases cosmetically , such a work of art in so many ways! It's one of four that was used to test bed the V8. It came to NZ in 1971.

Oh dear! I have been waiting for about three weeks for some sneaky mazdaspeed parts orders via the local branch, I was told yesterday that the overseas order person had been on "holiday" and was back at work today...... ah, the subtle art of lie
I am currently developing a high pressure oil pump to be used in conjunction with full groove race spec mains bearings. Bit O' this bit O' that, to acheive a stable mid range and top end oil flow/pressure for high boost application.

Gotten Himmel!
At last the new clutch and gearbox are in .
Had a fun time last night when for no apparent reason the ignition system dropped off on coil 1&4 after a heated road test. lucky it shat itself in the garage before I turned it off!! The ignitor was steaming and both number 1 and 4 spark plugs had fouled with fuel.
I will award someone a beer of your choice (just one), couried to your address if you can guess what caused it, if you nail it I will send two!
I have mitsubishi lancer gsr ignition coils and ignitor ( to handle higher boost, but works the same so isn't the problem), new spark plugs and leads, all ran by a Flyin Miata link mark 1, yum yum!
The solution was an hour of wiring and component diagnostics, oh yeah and the replacement part cost 55c...... back together and away it went, drives better right across the whole rev range, mmm mmm smooth.
Hahaha this should be fun
Go on have a guess!
Happy New Year!

I'll have a crack at that...
Your spirited drive heated up the windscreen washer bottle and the increased
pressue blew the outlet hose off which pis*ed water over the coil pack.
