crunchy 2nd? good news

Post by na6*dori » Sat Aug 18, 2012 12:15 am

i stripped down my 5 speed to find... 2nd gear, 2nd gear synchro, synchro hub and sleeve all stuffed...

Rang mazda dealership as the people we delt with through work had no listings for the na, and to my suprise i managed to pick up everything i need for less than 150 dollars.

So if anybody else is postponing the inevitable best to give them a ring, only posted this purely because ive never experienced a dealer thats cheap haha

Yeah Mazda is surprisingly cheap, I buy quite a bit off them. Sealed beams only $30, new antenna $45, they are pretty good.

How hard is it to strip down a gearbox?

Mine crunches going into 1st most of the time, and sometimes 3rd. I'm too hard on her I think. Also it's developing a high pitched whine when I really push it.

I feel like in the last month or so my car is falling apart around me.

Is there any simple way to make my 5th gear lower? Like changing sprockets on a bike simple?

I've got the enthusiasts manual (the Veloce one) and it seems pretty detailed, do you reckon that would be enough?

Also are any special tools required, and if so how much do they cost?

Thanks for your help
