From the ashes... What did you do to your roadster today?

No worries, the deed is done but the photos turned out shaky and rubbishy for some reason, seems to be since I updated the app over the weekendGRUVBB wrote:BGNZ...I too would be interested in the plasti dip application. Pics would be awesome. Im sure most would like to see them also. Good luck with it.

Anyway you should get the gist...

before - I stripped it last year as it got the infamous brg sticky dash syndrome
![Sad :(](./images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
![Image](http://i.imgur.com/927DJBo.png)
Minimal amount of masking, just a couple of rows of tape
![Image](http://i.imgur.com/TCCsgK4.png)
first couple of coats done, coverage is pretty good

3 coats done total, it seems to be pretty awesome stuff. I used the vht dye on the instrument binacle last year but I much prefer the matte finish of the plasti-dip. Tempted to do the wheels next

still got the textured finish[/img]
sorry about the embarrasingly bad photos!
Anyway, to summarise.
1/ Minimal prep, I just gave the dash a good wipe over with wax and grease remover (available at all good paint supplies shops....)
2/ Minimal masking. I got overspray on the window and on the crashpad, just wiped it off with wax and grease remover when I'd peeled the masking tape off.
3/ Good coverage/drying time. I reckon I've used half a can (28.99 from supercheap) and 3 coats on the dash, hidden the tan nicely and I have some to spare for other little bits I want to touch up - ashtray etc. Probably going to do the crash pad too. Fully dry in 4 hours.
Would recommend over vht spray dye. Its reversible too
And apparently hard wearing, ask me at the end of summer ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)

So today was eventful. Got a Hardtop of trade me and a new intake.
Now just to wait for the seller to send me pickup details and then I get to take a fat wad of dosh to exchange for the hardtop. Oh and hopefully 2 cans of plastidip should be enough to paint the hardtop.
P.S Sorry if it was a forum member I had the bidding war with.![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

I can go surfing now!
I can now go surfing thanks to a set of $40 trademe roof racks from Thule!
Also I think they look pretty mad as well![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
And the stripe thing I did as well, not sure what to think about it but I kinda like and it is also on vinyl so it doesn't matter!

Don’t confuse fame with success. Madonna is one; Helen Keller is the other.

that actually looks surprisingly handy- prob not good for anything heavy but for large/bulky things that don't weigh much like surfboards etc it looks good. How do they attach? Are they permanent / damaging to the hardtop?Jesse Pinkman wrote:I can now go surfing thanks to a set of $40 trademe roof racks from Thule!

racks
Nah no damage at all the hardtop seems to be sturdy enough for them. They are for 'gutter-less' cars so they have this 'hook' type plate which sort of clamps the rack onto the roof by adjusting it, also you can adjust the width/spacing of the pads which take the load so I spaced those so they are pretty much above the hardtop brackets as I figured that is the strongest part of the roof. They take less than a couple of minutes to take on and off after you've set the spacing, so I'll only put them on when I go to the beach so people won't steal them. Yeah haha don't get me wrong I'm not gonna use this for ladders or anything heavy ![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
