Height Adjustable Springs

So I just bought these and i will hopefully fit them this week

. I am starting this thread because there is barely any info on these kind of springs anywhere on the internet and it is a cheap way of getting your car lowered. Obviously they're not legal but I'll just change 'em out when WOF time comes along. They look surprisingly good quality and for the price who can complain? (unless they break haha) I got them off Tardme for $200 but you buy them off ebay for about that much with shipping.

I will follow this up with an update when I have got around to fitting them.

Oh yeah does anybody know anything about these? Please share your input if you have.

What shocks/dampers are you putting them on? What spring rates are they?

Obviously it's up to you if you want to risk it (both getting caught or risking insurance cover), but why not get them certed? Sure it costs, but by the time you've done a couple of wofs, the value of the time spent swapping suspension in and out is probably going to be more...

Pretty sure those can only be used on bilstein shocks. If fitting them to standard shocks you have to cut off the spring perch and weld on the collar in its place (i.e irreversible)

Sweet thanks Junkwhale. My car is a factory bilstein model but i think it has aftermarket shocks so I'll see. The spring rates are unknown? (weird but ohwell). I'm not gonna get a cert till i'm ready to put a turbo and coilovers on otherwise its a waste of money imo.

Update.

Okay so I installed them and it turns out I have KYB shocks with Mazdaspeed Eibach springs. These stupid ebay springs when I installed them and are as low as they can go while still being captive in the shock look like the STANDARD HEIGHT of a stock mx5. This has been a complete waste of time and money so I recommend you don't buy them! EVER!

However they do ride quite nicely BUT STILL DON'T BOTHER NOT WORTH THE EFFORT.

Rant over, I'm still annoyed AF.

I need a facepalm emoticon at times like these. I have a similar set in my car and they work a treat on my bilstiens.

Yeah I've got KYB shocks not bilsteins didn't you read what i said. Anyway the point was to lower my car more while still keeping the springs captive which as i discovered last night is not possible.

I can read and had noted what you had.
Lowering a car more than lowering springs and keeping springs captive is generally mutually exclusive. You need either keeper springs which will cause you to loose shock stroke, shorten the shock which will cause you to loose shock stroke, shorten the body of the shock if it's long enough too or shell out for body adjustable coilovers.
It pays to do a bit of research rather than bag something because you didn't know what you were buying.

There was a set that went for $800 + shipping and a second set for $1000 + shipping on yahoo.

Alright I've already sold them on! I did do a bit of research on these however they were more of an impulse buy really cause they were in NZ instead of from america. Those teins look very enticing however I can't afford them haha. Built4speed yeah I'm not that much of an idiot I do know what I'm doing you know I'm just trying out different things, I didn't think people would have a problem with that on here.
Anyway I've now discovered why the ride is so rubbish on my car, when putting the old Mazdaspeed Eibach springs back in I left out the rubber bumpstops to get a bit more suspension travel in the rear and now I definitely know it is bottoming out on bumps. So is this because of the KYB shocks, my car was a factory bilstein model so i was wondering if the bilsteins have a longer stroke? Reason being I wonder if one of the previous owners replaced the shocks with KYB ones which were designed for a stock ride height mx5.. CHeers

Not sure if this is helpful but I do know that if I fill up my boot with all my camping gear and other misc crap that I bottom out on speed bumps if I have the damping set to soft-medium settings. I just think there isn't that much travel on the rear shocks

Cool well mine do bottom out, also after an afternoon at the gymkhana and a day at the drags the day after i think my suspension is absolutely fucked nah, I need to put the bumpstops back in on the front and I think the drivers side rear spring is sagging now as well

Oh well looks like coilovers are definitely next on the shopping list
