That's right - Lose your factory exhaust, relocate your spare, gain boot space and potentially air flow! Woo!
Love to do this once I've found a random $20 muffler that fits and someone who can weld.

Originally thought about it but then just ditched the heavy spare. Only put it in if I go outside Auckland otherwise I rely on my emergency can. The spare will get super dirty there and you'll probably forget to check the pressure.

Cant help but think that would cook the spare tyre from the exhaust heat.

I'd forgotten about this mod as I had seen it a while back so now that I don't have a rear muffler I have just given it a go.
Problem is fitting it so that it stays tight. The wheel is almost too heavy to lift in place without a jack so I used a chain to pull it up from the inside of the boot but its hard to tighten up the wheel to prevent it moving and knocking [which I would assume would fail wof].Maybe a slightly bigger chain hole and a relevant type of wedge might do the trick...as I don't see it being an easy job if I got a puncture on a dark rainy night crawling under the car in my Tuxedo!

I threw my spare out within a week of getting my MX5...inserted tyre pando in boot = created more space AND saved weight.
Its rare to get a puncture these days esp if you run tyres with plenty of tread.
The NC has no spare!!!

Sure, its a great idea.. but if you need that much space in the boot anyway, where will you put the flat when it comes off? just ditch it on the side of the road and come back?

Put the tyre in the passenger seat and get the passenger to catch the bus?

Yeah did it to my 1800 a few years back, never had to change it so can't comment on that.
As posted elsewhere, I ditched my spare a few days ago in my brg, got a flat last night. Gutted, drove home on it, about 3km so it'll be wrecked. Going to move the spare underneath on this one I reckon.

Well for now I have ditched the idea of putting it under the boot unless I can come up with an easy solution to lift and hold it in place.
I don't need the boot space so it goes back in where its easy to remove on track days and is good insurance because as the saying goes..

Looks like a great idea to me my toolbox almost fills the boot now
A bit of heat shielding would help
And a cover on the tyre .. also rubber gloves will help keep ya clean if you do have to change a tyre
A lift system like they have on some vans and wagons would make it easier to lift and hold in place
Hiluxes and big trucks have the whole chain and winch drama but vans just have a bit of steel rod hinged at the front and a hook on a winder at the rear
Sling tyre under - lift frame and tyre up onto hook - wind up threaded rod in the boot = done and secure

you could get one of those winches that they used under the tray of old holden utes and some commercial vans (hiace?)

What about a 6 x 1/2in (metric equivalent) bolt with head cut off and bluntly sharpened - nut wound right on - washer - poke through hole in floor - washer - nut. A bit of rubber with hole punched through push fitted from bottom. --- when wheels wound up blunt spike goes through wheel nut hole locating it and rubber stops it flopping about ?

I have been told [By Bridgestone tyres] the tyre in a can stuffs the tyre anyway with all the goop that gets pumped in so you may go from just a flat to a replacement tyre.

I'd be more worried about it rooting the rim if you don't deal with it quickly...

Having just used my space saver yesterday, I can say that I forgot to check the pressure with it in the boot anyway.
Didn't matter as its solid....
I rooted my tyre by driving on it flat anyway so my own fault, but you're sort of stuffed either way pretty much.
