Just interested to know what people are running???
Brands???
Weight???
What kind of trouble people have run into with lightened flywheels
Not sure if i should just buy something or lighten what i have.
Ive got a 93 NA8C, pretty much standard with an intake & exhaust.

Some Japanese thing that was pretty light. Car prone to stalling at idle in hot weather with the supercharger, a.c. running and on high octane. No problems on 91. Oh you also get quite a lot more transmission noise so I just turn the stereo louder
Other that the whining noise you won't have any problems on your stock setup other than stalling lots initially until you're used to it

I took a couple of pounds (Just under a kg) off the standard steel flywheel.
You can't go too light as it is only cast steel though...

TODA chrome molly ,From factory 9kg down to 3.5kg !!,Super responsive,Just get used to revs dropping quickly,No good if you are considering Turbo,You need the weight to keep the revs from dropping too quickly.
Best performance mod in my books without touching too much

I still reckon the flyin miata happy meal is the best. Its proven to work and hold high hp and just works. No effing about and having to do it all over when the lesser product doesn't work out

Hmmm didn't realise they made them lighter than what I have. I think my toda was 5.5kg but doesn't have all the holes. Probably good I didn't go lighter with the a.c. and supercharger drag. I would've thought a turbo would be happy with a crazy light flywheel but then again I'm not the most knowledgeable about cars

Have used a Racing Beat alloy flywheel 93 1.

, initially on the road and more recently racing only. Stalling has never been an issue...and shouldn't be on your set up.
Personally, I would not bother taking only 1 or 2 kg off a standard flywheel unless you were doing the clutch anyway.

+1 for the Flyin' Miata Happy Meal, works great with a turbo aswell, never had issues with drivability, feels like stock but can handle the extra power!

There was a balancing company in New Lynn (Behind King Dicks). I had the flywheel lightened, then the flywheel and clutch assembly bolted together and balanced.
All up it cost me about $150 but that was about 15 - 16 years ago...
(I did the install though which saves money).
