Some seat questions

I know this information is out there somewhere but I seem to be chasing my tail trying to track it down. I want to put an aftermarket bucket seat in my NA, even with foamectomy I could do with more support.

1. Am I going to be able to get low enough using stock sliders?
2. If I take the sliders out, will I have to get it certified? It seems from the LV website I would.
3. If sliders stay in, do I HAVE to use a subframe as NZKW website says?
4. Those of you using one in a road car, are you running the seatbelt through the side holes?

Lastly, fit. I live way away from civilisation, and anything I buy is going to be mail order, so I can't test fit any. Any recommendations for the cheaper end of the scale? I'm 5'10", average build, 80kg. I don't want to rattle round in it but I also don't want bruised hips.

And yes I'd like the Brides Ross has advertised at the moment but budget won't stretch that far.

Can pick up bride imitations on trademe sometimes for a decent spend. The simple answer is, if you want to go low, lose the factory fails. A bottom mount seat will help but be a bitch to fit. Judging by your measurements I would say you are looking at a med or large Asian seat or a medium NZ seat.

I'm just under 6ft, 70kg's and use a small sized jamex bucket seat on factory sliders, gets you a tad lower than a foamectomy seat, a floor mounted seat would lower you a hell of a lot more also.
the seat is quite old so padding is worn but a decent condition one would be quite comfortable

i would run the seatbelt through the side holes if i could, the factory red click thing is too long to go through the left hand hole so i run it over the top.

Just wondering, are there any legal implications to a seat bolted to the floor? Apart from a short and stubby little VTNZ inspector having a fit because he can't reach the pedals

You can't certify a car that doesn't have sliders on the driver seat, unless you have a msnz Motorsport authority card.

Just a heads up.

Buy a seat that has minimal shoulder wings and straight sides on the base. Some seats have the leg openings flared right out, and it makes them a prick to fit

You'll struggle to get lower than factory seat without cutting the floor and making new mounts through the floor, then you'll need to get friendly with a certifier.

Luke, you sure? When I certed my civic the first time it had no authority card and was on custom rails with no sliders

How long ago was that? Certs have changed alot in the past few years.

Just bolt the standard seat in for wof...then re- fit new seat.

I am using a momo seat on factory rails with the seat-belt over the sides.
My hard-top fits over the roll bar so from the pics you may be able to get an idea of a bucket seats headroom on facory rails.
When i certed my car it was added on the list even though i believe if the seat is on factory rails a cert is not required.At 5'61/2" i have tons of headroom!

Genuine T-Frame & Rookie buckets from Momo w/factory sliders bolted to them are very low, ask anyone who's sat in my car, underneath the bum of the seat there's only room fingertips.

I have a bride rep in mine, on stock sliders. Gives you a lot more low.

Been pulled over by the wonderful NZ police once when he noticed my seats weren't certified. He goes to get a green sticker, I ask "what's the sticker for?" his reply "the uncertified bucket seats"

So I pull out my phone, open up the LVVTA website and show him that I have no airbag. Have not modified the Seats anchor points and havn't modified the Seatbelt anchors.

Next thing he says is fixed back seats are illegal for rear seat passengers. So I looked behind me and he took that back.

No cert needed

That sliding seat rule is annoying... I was hoping to get away with the super low mounts, otherwise I guess I can get decently low mounts and then swap them out...? And keep the sliding mounts around in the garage just in case..........?

OK thanks guys, I guess I'll get a seat and see what's required. My WOF guy is pretty reasonable, he's never commented on the recaros mounted in my 4WD.
