A BFMR Familia rocker cover should work, just one of the B6T Familia's, They only differ into where the Cam Angle Sensor goes in B6/B6T on intake cam and BP/BPT on exhaust.dylann wrote:Out of a mazda 323, bg model, so these, although this b6 engine came in a few other things
the one i got is from an 1800 which may explain why it doesnt fit, theres a little hoop on the back of the cover, and its on the wrong side but thats ok
polished up the lettering on it, looks ace!

The BP one is longer than the B6. The BP one I have came off an Astina.
The other thing to watch out for is that the connection for the PCV and crank case ventilation are in different places.

i had one of these arrive today.... now to pull finger and get it installed (along with the boot opener)

I could put it under the drivers seat but that would require unbolting the seat to get it to slip under it. Currently I am looking at mounting it on the wall directly behind the drivers seat but I am unsure exactly what is behind that wall.
Can I safely mount it there? if I screw through the wall behind the seat (4 holes for the sub) is there a danger of me drilling into something bad and making a mess?

If it fits under the seat mate, put it there. It's only 4bolts to pop the seat out.
Behind the seat is gunna seriously reduce your seat travel, however if your 5ft it wont matter...
Fuel tank is in the middle of the 'parcel shelf' - half under your folded down roof- so you won't touch it by drilling behind ur seat.

I'm not crazy, my mother had me tested.

I did some prep work for the install and discovered that there is simply not enough room under the seat for the sub, so sadly that option is ruled out. I am 5'8" but the loss of space would not be an issue as my comfortable driving position has the seat far enough forward to still recline back 90% of the current travel.
so if I was to continue with plan A and mount it behind the seat, just so I am crystal clear....
underneath the top carpet cover in the pic I posted (with the 2 buttons on it) is the fuel tank which is attached to the top tray with what appears to be aluminum brackets (which has the fuel pump mounted to the top middle part of this bracket). So, am I correct in understanding that I could safely mount it to the wall behind the lower part of the seat? (basically from the bottom of the first aid kit down?)
What exactly is behind there? I couldn't find any specific info or picture in my Haynes manual and I was wondering if it was simply a cavity or if it was a birds nest of hard to access wires all ripe and ready for me to short out by drilling into them
thanks in advance for any info and apologies for the minor thread hijack

That "wall" is not directly connected to the fuel tank on the vertical plane, but the part of it that forms the parcel shelf does bolt down around the fuel tank, so mounting it on the parcel shelf is definitely out, while mounting it behind the driver's seat should be in.chris wrote:Sorry I can't be of to much help, but I am 99% sure Angreal is right and there is a fuel tank there..
What about ON the parcel tray?
btw, if you need a hand with the boot release let me know =]
If it's a subwoofer though, I'd put it in the boot well.
EDIT:

The fuel tank is below that middle steel cover. The cover running from right to bottom center is what forms the upper portion of the rear of the cabin and half of the parcel shelf.
There is a cavity with some wiring back there, but you can access it by unbolting that metal cover, and you'll see where you can drill through.

The recess in the boot would accommodate that sub quite nicely, OR what about the passenger footwell. Right at the end against the firewall and just pull the carpet over it and tell your passengers not to kick it...
Just a thought.

I've got my amp sitting on the floor of the boot, however if you want heaps of boot space that probably wont work for you but you could give it a try.
The bass actually travels quite well through the mx5 i find, my terrible 10" sub with a terrible home made box can shake the rear view mirror easily.
