miata boss kit
hi. i have a NA miata and i want to change my steering wheel to a smaller aftermarket one so i won't be driving it with my knees. but my factory wheel have a airbag.
can i still use normal aftermarket mx5 boss kit on my car or do i have to source a different type of boss kit since i have airbag on my factory steering wheel.
and if any one has one please let me know.
cheers

Re: miata boss kit
I can't direct you in terms of what boss kit you'll require, but you will require LVV certification for the removal of your airbag steering wheel.

One of the grounds upon which you are able to remove airbag (i.e. if the car is not at least 14 years of age) is if the vehicle has been extensively modified for motorsport use. Your reasoning seems relevant to that, although on that basis you may require authority cards and the like...Kieran wrote:could you argue that with a rollbar in a crash a airbag is likely to push the drivers head into the bar and on the street you will not be wearing a helmet?
But any NA and early NBs are able to have airbag removed anyway on the basis that they're at least 14 years old.

Lolololol look at all these guys jumping on the 'YOU NEED A CERT' buzz. I don't think he asked whther he needed cert, he's asking which sorta boss kit he needs to buy to change his steering wheel.
Hahaha classic.

a standard wheel boss will fit. also you need to take out the airbag light. also note that the boss kit for the standard momo/sportline wheels has a different wheel bolt pattern to the Nardi wheels.
removing an airbag from an airbagged NA doesnt make it unsafe...it just makes it as safe as nearly every other NA mx5
