so slydit is at my workshop while i give it some love, and one of the boys rings me and tells me the car wont start as they were putting it back in at the end of the day.

ive had a quick look and the fuel pump doesnt run when cranking BUT it does run if i jumer the diagnostic connector.
When i turn the key to ignition position i get the charge light but no check engine light..i cant remember if thats mormal or not..
to top it all off my mutimeter died so i couldnt check voltages...
any ideas? main relay? ECU fuse??

after a bit of googling it seems that lack of check engine light may indicate a dodgy main relay located in the engine bay fuse box... i'll make a jumper and see if it starts.

My roadster is having the same problem.
It will crank but have no spark, this has happened to me twice and the first time was due to the main relay in the fuse box being broken. I have just tested by borrowing my frds one and it started fine again so it is probably the same problem as before.
John Andrew Ford and Mazda quoted me $211 for a brand new one.
Is there anywhere we can get it cheaper??

So you are saying that both the check light and fuel pump run when the key is turned. To the ignition position??????

Can't 100% confirm the check light, I know it comes on, but I think it goes off. My fuel pump does run however with just the key turned to ignition position.
My cars a 1.6 NA, at work at the mo so can't check unfortunately.

Looks like its an ignition problem. Only getting spark on 1 and 4 and not 2+3. I'll have to check tomorrow whether its an igniter or coil pack. Hope like hell its not an emanage channel.

grrr still cant get car to start.

i have downloaded the wiring manual so if i ever get any spare time at work (not bloody likely at the moment) i'll have to trace all the power wiring and see why my fuelpump seems to have stopped working when switched to run.(works with diagnostic connector jumped)
anyone who has any spare parts such as main and fuel pump relays.ignitors/coilpacks etc please let me know so i can fault find this bitch.

imrunning an RX7 afm. the fuel pump USED to run when i switched it to the run position but now it doesnt.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE CONFIRM THAT THEIR MX PUMP RUNS WHEN SWITCHED TO THE RUN POSITION PLEASE PLEASE.
IF I jumper the diagnostic connector the pump runs when in run and start but the car still wont fire. i have power to the injectors/coils/ignitor /CAS/tps and one of the ecu wires (cant confirm all the 12v feeds to the ecu are there, i forgot there was more than one.)
tomorrow i will take my pld mx afm into work and plug it in and see what happens.
if anyone has any parts such as CAS/ignitor/coilpack/ECU that they dont mind lending out please let me know.

my fp is loud...always has been. turn your radio off and listen in your garage. you probably have no hope outside on the road. you wont hear it with the engine running.
