No noise test- just turbo, wheels, brakes, seat, loop, suspension, ecu, intercooler, roll bar, boot wing,body-kit as written on his sheet..... some stuff on there that i thought wouldn't need to be mentioned on the report!Mr. Shine wrote:Did you require an exhaust noise test as part of yours? Mine was $400 plus GST but only for adjustable suspension.

Yeah I got told that too but personally I judged the definition of 'need' to be if I couldn't get a warrent...Mr. Shine wrote:Pretty sure this is incorrect, strictly speaking, as all brake modifications other than those specified in the thresholds (and upgrading larger rotors/calipers/pads is not specified) require certification.Euen wrote:As they are a standard part they shouldn't need certing.
And the 1.8 upgrade doesn't scream "im not factory" (i didn't fit silver braided lines or anything) I've got warrants with no worries!
Oh absolutely, just mentioning the letter of the law to be safe. I know I'd hate to be caught out by insurance or a particularly eagle-eyed constable or WoF inspector, but chances are you'd be unlikely to ever be pulled up on it.tomtikki wrote:Yeah I got told that too but personally I judged the definition of 'need' to be if I couldn't get a warrent...

Correct. If it wasn't factory to that specific car, you need a cert.Mr. Shine wrote:Pretty sure this is incorrect, strictly speaking, as all brake modifications other than those specified in the thresholds (and upgrading larger rotors/calipers/pads is not specified) require certification.Euen wrote:As they are a standard part they shouldn't need certing.
However, the likelihood of ACTUALLY needing a cert to pass a WoF is pretty dam slim

I got my car certed by Neil for arouns the $500 mark; turbo + coilovers. I would recommend him as I thought he was very good to deal with.
Re the brakes: I fitted some M1166 front pads from 0800 race brakes and had no issues with the cert - otherwise stock 1600 brakes. I found that they couldn't handle repeated stops from 200kph on at pukekohe though and now the car has stock pads due to a simultaneous lack of brake pads and funds.. go figure. I will sort the brakes out properly before I drive it again though because brake fade is no fun.
For LVV related things this is a good web site: http://www.lvvta.org.nz/ lots of info here regarding what does/does not need a cert. The documentation there was really helpful when I was preparing my car for it's cert, For instance, it describes the requirements for brakes quite plainly.
Technically you require a cert for changing a turbo or fitting an external wastegate.. how many uncerted evo's etc.. do you think there are out there with massive turbo upgrades? no one is going to notice 1.8 brakes on a 1.6.
Interestingly you can apparently cert a full rollcage in a convertible.. wish I'd known that when I got mine done because I wouldn't have removed the cage :/
re the wheels - the size is noted on my cert and I'm not sure why, the LVVTA modification threshold document states that the can be changed without a cert within reason.. I have a set of 14's for the street and 15's for the track days, planning to ditch the 14's and it would be a pain if this caused problems with the wof.
