Alarm Suggestions?
I did it! Bought my first MX5 and stoked as anything, considered skipping work today to take her on a trip...
Anyway, I need to look at getting an alarm installed as she's only fitted with an immobilizer at the moment. I'm on a bit of a budget unfortunately, so I'm wondering how important it is to have a 5 star alarm on an MX5? I'm a convertible amateur so I am going to be paranoid for a while about people vandalizing the roof since I can't get a hard top till I can save up! Also forgot to mention - she has no central locking so I'd need an alarm that can sort that bit out too!
Thoughts/advice on alarms for my new baby?

the star rating system is a joke. its a bit like the master builders association...if you pay enough money you get the ticket.
i personally prefer the new generation of GPS tracker alarms. there is one on trademe that has a remote and siren and you can fit a microwave sensor to it also. and the best thing is that it will text you if the door is opened or alarm set off. and you can also text it to disable the car..bloody brilliant.
i fitted the non remote one to a mates skyline and he is rapped with it.

Bumping this old thread.
I was on my way to the gym today, and one of my drinks decided to empty itself and nuke everything in my bag..including my car remote. I only have the one and now that it doesn't work, neither does my car.
It was a decent alarm (unsure of brand), alarm, immobiliser, central locking, boot release, microwave sensor (if thats the thing that detects hands going into the car with the top down).
I'm considering replacing it all together, unless I can easily get a new remote set up for it.
Is there a specific type that is suited for these cars? Or will something like the MONGOOSE M80GNZ work? It lists all the same features as my old one, and its on sale for $259 (not including fitting).
