Special Edition MX5?

Post by cmscss » Sun Jun 24, 2012 7:09 pm

Hi There,

My partner has had her MK1 MX5 for about 10 years and was told it was some kind of Special Edition - does this sound right?

Some details:
- 1994, black, 1.8 ltr
- Momo steering wheel and gear knob
- Bilstein shocks
- BBS alloys
- Quite a lot of silver trim like mirrors and door sills (with Eunos Roadster written on them)

I'm not familiar with these cars - is there a way to definitively work out what model she has? I guess I'm trying to understand what on this car is factory and what might be after market - the shocks seem pretty damn hard!

Any pointers in the right direct would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Furai

Thanks guys but still a bit in the dark sorry - ours sounds more like a 1992 model:

""S-Special" version launched, with Bilstein dampers, BBS alloy wheels, Nardi leather steering wheel and shift knob"

I found a VIN decoder but it was for North American cars only - do you know i there's global decoder anywhere?

OK, sorry, just found a Vehicle Information sticker on the drivers door which has: Grade: S-SP Special Edition

Does anyone know if there's a way to decode the other stuff on the sticker?

If you are buying something from your local Mazda dealer and they are not too busy, they are able to pull up the build spec of the car on their computer. If you ask them really nicely they may even print the screen for you. You need the chassis number though.
