Some ##### hit my 5!

Post by Euen » Mon Mar 19, 2012 9:40 am

Away for the weekend and left the 5 parked outside on the street. Saturday evening got a call from my son to say that some ###### had ploughed into the back of it smashing the right rear. The impact had moved the car about 3 metres along the road. (50Km/h area with a speed bump about 20m behind the car)

From initial inspection the damage looks superficial. Bumper, tail-light, rear centre panel, right rear guard. Not sure about behind the bumper yet.

Damage to the other guy's car is probably significant as well. From the wreckage on the street my son recognised the part numbers on the light fragments as coming from a 96 Corolla Levin (or similar so we will be looking out for one with damage to the front left.

I'm not a happy camper! (just being polite for the forum)

What a pack of spineless &^(*&^s. Probably St. Patricks day drunkards who decided to get behind the wheel. I'm assuming the car is insured? Although after my current dealings with insurance, I no longer think that's much of a safety net. 5 weeks and they haven't even made the decision whether to fix my car or write it off yet after it was stolen and recovered!

Only have 3rd party. Fully comp is not worth it for a $5k car.

Sorry to hear about your car.

I parked mine up at the supermarket the other day and when I got home, realised some a$$ had hit my right rear.

Karma's a biatch... hope all the sh*theads that don't own up, get what they deserve at some point in life!

That's rough. My mx5 was hit in a car park while my dad was borrowing it. Luckily a passer by saw it and called the police.

unfortunately the driver was uninsured and unemployed.. sigh.

A few photos of the damage. The exhaust has also been pushed back and bent.

If anyone sees a 95 - 97 Toyota Levin or Trueno on the North Shore with a smashed up front left I would love to hear about it.

Kinks in the rear guard. One in front of the wheel as well.

Boot floor. There is also a crease from the subframe mount (centre left of pic) to the well in the boot floor.

Underneath. He must have hit it fairly hard as the mount for the tie-down which should be vertical is on an angle of about 45*.

Thats a good size hit,These cars are built reasonably strong in the rear end.
Depending on what it's insured for ,if you are ,it would close to be written off

Must be a pretty low levin! To hit an MX5 at that kind of height. Any hint as to what colour the car might have been?

No colour unfortunately. Neighbour thought it may have been a light colour, but then his wife said he was partially colour-blind so not much help.

We only know what the car was from the part numbers on the headlight and indicator fragments that were left behind. My son has a Levin and recognised the numbers.

Finally got my 5 back from the panel beaters. Looks OK. Now I just have to get a new warrant on it.
