Any others tricks to tighten crank pulley bolt?

Post by WideOpenThrottle » Mon Mar 14, 2011 9:12 pm

Hi team...........just done a cambelt change on our other mx5,its an NB and all went well untill i it came to the 112ft/lbs of torque required for the crank bolt.
Mazda said to remove the starter motor & jam the flywheel ring-gear but i had to give it away as one bolt is impossible to get to!
Any one got any bright ideas? is there something else that works?

Cheers

have your tried to put the car in gear (2nd or 3rd) and have someone push the car backwards while you hold the torque wrench. ps I have never tried this so have no idea if it will work, just an option..

the rattle gun might work but i will have to take out the fans & the radiator plus the sway-bar for room but i still wont know if its at the right torque.

Maybe i should try it in reverse first.
