License Plate Stickers

Post by Donovan » Mon Feb 21, 2011 3:49 pm

Does anyone know what the deal is with the stickers that can go on the front the MX5 that replace the license plate, so you don't end up with a plate in front of the air intake?

Are they legal?

I have one on the front of my car, and never really thought about it. Have done 2 WOF's since having it and haven't had any problems, and passed many officers of the law. But was talking away to someone about my plans of granduar and such with the car, and they looked at it, and said that my sticker license plate was illegal?

Does he know what he is talking about, or just blowing smoke up my butt.

Think I might have found my answer.

Weird that I have never had any problems, have had the car for 6 months. Dunno how long the sticker was on there before I bought the car.

A painted or non genuine number plate is not a Warrant of Fitness check requirement.

It does not fall under safety, and therefore sits under regulatory.

Until such time as authorities such as parking wardens, or police officers take issue with the sticker type front number plate, the car could pass its WoF inspections without any problems.

all comes down to how the officer feels on the day
it is a reason to give you a ticket if you are having abit too much fun

if i were you i would put the sticker on a white background and keep the original in the boot so that you can attach on the spot if they say anything about it but if they see you again without it on they wont be happy

Picky of the sticky. It was made to look like a normal plate, only a bit (lot) smaller

Haven't got the original, never come with the car when I bought it, just the plate on the back, and the sticker on the front.

They are not legal. Had them on the wifes car and recieved a warning. Did not have the original so had to get replacement (new number) carn't rmember but think it was about $9 or $10. MX5 Mart has a nice number plate mount that fits in the same position and doesn't block you air intake. Cheers

Dont use a stick on plate. The law will give you a $200 fine for "failing to display the registration plate issued to the vehicle".
I trim the edges of the plate down.Looks good and is still the original plate.
Or get one of my front plate mounts.
