Hi guys, should the thermostat be installed with the little nib thing towards the front or rear of the car?
The old one in my car was facing towards the front, while miatanet shows some photos of the thermostat with the nib thing facing back.

Probably doesnt matter as long as it opens and the water flows!
Then again there might be a scientific way to install it.

the thermostat part (the bit with the spring) should point towards the back of the car as that is the bit that senses the water temperature and decided to open once it is hot enough. If you put it in the other way around you will get an overheating problem

It won't make an once of difference if it is to the front or the back as long as the thermostat is installed the right way up and it opens when it should.

I dont think the original poster is talking about the flow orientation, he is talking about where the alignment indent should go (noted as the jiggle valve below).
Generally the housing wont let you put a thermostat in the wrong way (in terms of flow direction)

Correct, all I wanted to know was which way the jiggle pin should be. Front or back?

If you install it in the morning it should be to the front. If you are working on the cooling system after lunch it should be towards the back
Seriously though it dosen't make any difference.

It does'nt make a steaming difference ( front or back orientation wise).
The jiggle valve ( a new dance song from the Wiggles maybe???) should go closest to the TOP to allow the passage of air bubbles.
Hope this sorts out the "heated "debate
