Anyone upgraded their NB door speakers?
There seem to be a lot of direct 5x7/6x8 replacements her in NZ. But looking on USA forums a lot of guys used a Clearwater brand 8" (Too expensive to bring here).
An 8" would have to be really shallow. You can also get 8" to 6.5" adapters, but again not here.
Experience anyone...

I replaced my Bose door speakers when I removed the Bose system in my NB. It
was awful! There is a lot of room in the doors. I used 8" subwoofers that
Supercheap had at the time. They were easy to fit as the hole spacing
matched and although quite deep, there was still plenty of clearance. I
still used the original tweeters but had to add attenuation.
I was going to make some spacers from marine ply to allow fitting of 6.5"
speakers. This would have been simple to do but I liked the idea of getting
the full 8" cone size.
I was told at the time that Pioneer had some good 8" speakers but couldn't
find any here.

Should have added I replaced the Bose radio and bypassed the Bose amplifier.
I installed a JVC mp3 capable unit. Results were excellent and far better
than the Bose original.
The car was an import 1998 V-spec.

Hi Grant, Mine is not the Bose system, I assume they both have the same door
panel cut-out. Mine have a plastic adapter so they can use the 5x7 series,
just about everyone makes them. I'll have to pull the door off again and
confirm the cut-out size, must be 8" although the plastic adapter is under8"
across.... confusing.
