Aftermarket/bigger wheels

Post by colsan » Tue Aug 11, 2009 5:28 pm

The wifes mx has got standard 14" mazda wheels fitted but
i was thinking of getting some thing a bit bigger as i thought it would look nicer and fill the arches more.
1) do i have to worry about offsets on the wheels i buy?
whats the offset on the stock wheels?
2) how much will bigger dia rims effect the speedo reading and
is there a way round it ?
3) how big would people reccomend? (15's, 16's, 17's) is there a size thats too
big and will need spacers to stop it rubbing?

I wouldnt go bigger than 16" or you may get "Tramlining". pcd=4x100 and offset around the 35-38mm mark. When you go bigger diameter, just lower the profile of the tyre to get a similar overall size. Changes over 5% should have speedo re-calibrated and may need certification. see http://www.alloywheels.com/TyreCalc.asp or http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html cheers stevo :D

Tell us about your car and it might be easier to recommend something to suit....
What are you trying to achieve...a different look, more grip, all of the above?

You can compare sizes here.....

The ultimate tyre calc, don't forget to select metric.

Any new wheels would be purely for cosmetics
