Replacements needed for Yokohama DNA dB Decibels
Recently had a run-in with a rather sharp rock fall north of Kaikoura and had to find a replacement Yokohama DNA dB 205/45R16 - turned out to be not the easiest job! Fortunately, Affordable Tyres in Christchurch had just ONE amongst their enormous stock of part worn (nowhere I tried had new) so I was up and running again.
Question is - when I come to rerplace, as I feel likely withing the next six months, what do I change to?
I'll want to go 2 tyres at a time (to reduce outlay) so plan on putting best 2 Yokohama's on the back with new whatevers on front. Then, as needed, get another two of whatever and swap these new ones to the front.
Question is - for a commuter who enjoys the odd 'zoom' and needs reasonable stickiness with good life and low noise - what's the options?

I had a similar problem a few months ago, but couldn't replace the tyre immediately (4 month wait on stock arriving from overseas).
however, a slightly smaller profile was readily available, so bought two and put them on the front.
When you come to upgrade time, look for 195/ 16s and put them on the front.

Toyo T1R are listed by Toyo NZ in 205/45x16. I run them in a smaller size (195/50x15) and they are excellent with an 'agressive' wheel alignment. Great in the wet and enough grip in the dry to give you and your passenger a big grin!

3rd vote for the Toyo T1-R
they dont last as long as other tyres but they dont cost as much either, so your $ per K is about the same with the bonus that the STICK to the road!
what ever you do DO NOT get sucked into buying yokohama "C DRIVES" they are CRAP! they cost the earth, have average grip and only last as long as a T1-R. better off with the toyos.

they are a budget tire sold through beaurepairs etc
perfectly fine for your average driver.
i have had them on my daily driver car before

there are quite a few threads on tires in this forum
generally TOYO T1Rs seem to be the tire of choice
however i am running DUNLOP DZ101s and like them alot
they work well in the twisty bits
