I'm bit confused. A MX5 was born in 1989. So, 1990 is too early for 8th anniversary and 1800cc motor does not match the model number of NA6C with suggesting 1600cc.

Can you point out the source that you got this information?

probably just like a 1990 with an engine swap.

Ask them what is on the door label...

ahh, I see - looks like someone has just stuck a metal label of some sort on the boot that says 8th Anniversary Edition

Oh yeah i have also got them to photo the Id plate & it definately shows NA6CE-Mazda NZ are a bit confused as well! It may be special edition model if there was ever such a beast but i feel it may be a standard model with an 1800 engine transplant.I have yet to verify it is an 1800 by way of photo.Never heard pre 1994 being 1800cc?

Apart from engine swaps, which are commonly done...

I'd put money on that '8th Anniversary thing' being just a stuck on badge. We get a few of them - Bill B who used to be in the club had an 'Efini' badged roadster... and I saw a 'Type R' badged one once :)

It's standard model. May be engine swap as suggested.

it has after market shift knob and staring wheel and stereo. It's pretty much average from the picture.

There is no 8th anniversary edition as my knowledge. There is 10th as we all know.

As a guide - A very quick way of telling if it is a 1600 or 1800 is the valve cover.
The 1600 has the letters recessed in, the 1800 has the letters raised.

another really easy way to tell is the air intake pipe. on the 1600 it goes under the radiator hose and on the 1800 it goes above.
