Post by Psycho_Dad » Sun Mar 29, 2009 8:50 pm

well i just did an engine conversion on my car, its idling, but when i rev it its a pig, ive changed injectors(fact for fact) factory computer, fuel filter(which was pretty blocked) and its still running like junk

i just wanna tow it to a mechanic who knows their stuff and can trouble shoot better than me, because im lost for words

and it has to be in tauranga because im not towing it furthur

What did you change? The whole engine?
Have you checked there are no leaks in the pipework to the inlet manifold?

Check the plug on the air flow meter ,also check the hose from the idle control vale to the main intake pipe

swapped the whole engine, minus the inlet butterfly

cleaned airflow meter plug with contact cleaner
timings at 12 degrees
pressurised inlet manifold, its allmost holding 7psi(leaking through injectors, not enough to make such a problem)
blocked idle control valve lines and it still does it
swapped ignition cables

the new engine was running a link though, could that have anything to do with anything

im really out of ideas here guys, mechanic is the next option
it wont idle at 12degrees for very long
peace

Oxygen sensor or maybe overlapping ignition cables-water in sparkplug sockets or shorting to earth via carbon deposits in hole or maybe dirty fuel jets

spark seems good, tested each sparkplug out of their holes, ill check the overlapping oxy sensor in the morning, ive replaced the ignitors just in case, and the injectors incase they were blocked

fuel pressure is their, tested with a fuel guage on the rail, and fuel pressure reg is working correctly, talk about head fck

ecu has been reset, and swapped for another ecu just in case, no error codes, new engine had done 60,000kms, i didnt swap the cambelt, just put her in

it out of my league it seems

just for an update, got it back from tauranga auto electric, they said airflow meter, best $250 ive spent

except ofcourse its still running like this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Vcn89Eq ... annel_page

the youtube one isnt my car but sounds exactly like a bridgeport rotary

http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.ph ... ge=1&pp=25

thats how he fixed the problem, but ive checked the wires running from the afm to the ecu and the tps to the ecu and they seem to be dandy(since he ran the wrong red wire)

it running really rich as it is, cam belt timing is fine, according to the prev owner the engine was running sweet

more ideas or suggestions as usual would be appreciated

oh btw if i retard the timing to below 8 degrees it seems to stop running rich, could it have something to do with where the cas is set? is the cog adjustable?

what are you getting from your o2 sensor that may be telling the ecu that its running lean and dumping a crap load of fuel in
