YOU CAN ALSO USE A POWER RACK AND "MANUALISE IT" (WHOOPS CAPS)
The power rack has less turns lock to lock and a few people have manualised thiers. ill try and find a link for you .
ahhh here it is...

Managed to locate one in the end from Ross at MX5 mart.
You can indeed de power a power rack, which is what I had done. Unfortunately, what I, and clearly some other people didnt realise, is that it will fail a WOF with a depowered rack! And its a modification that is no longer allowed to be certified with an LVV

Does anyone know if the higher ratio internals will fit inside a manual rack housing?

How can they tell if it has been de-powered?Mine has no hoses left or are they just able to spot where they were connected?

thats rather unlucky that any mechanic would notice something like that. were the ends of the pipe still connected to the rack? most wouldnt notice without the tails hanging out

They noticed the steering felt quite heavy, and then noticed the PS rack with the blanked off holes. Youre right its unlucky they noticed, but they still did! In fact, they were of the opinion that all MX5s had power steering, which I soon corrected them on, but its was this original assumption, plus the heavy steering, which lead them to look for the faulty or missing pump. The pipe tails and pipe loops were unfortunately also still visible, but this was not the reason the 'de-power' was noticed.
It is perhaps a blessing in disguise, as the original steering column and spindle are not designed to take the loads of steering without power assistance. The manual rack provides some relief as its geared down slightly in comparison, and also has a one piece spindle as opposed to a two piece power assisted one.
The power internals wont fit a manual housing as far as im aware.
