what MSNZ-associated club to join
i need to be join a MSNZ-associated club to be allowed to enter the mx5 in some hillclimbs and time trials and the like
but there's nothing like that for mx5's, the nz mx5 club is more of a social club i guess not really motorsport focused
so i've got to join something else, not sure what. any recommendations? i'm in auckland by the way, but the club doesn't have to be

thanks! i'll give them a try
by the way i got those konis and other suspension bits from you installed, they're nice, ride a little firmer (probably because of the eibach 375/250 f/r springs i paired them with) but overall it's quicker around a track now which was the point of the whole exercise
only minor issue was that the adjustability was broken on one of the rear konis, didn't bother getting it rebuilt though i've just sort of left them to full soft all around, since the car becomes pretty skittish when it's at half-firm or more

what MSNZ-associated club to join - Springs...
375/250 is not so bad, the rebound adjustment makes a big difference on bumpy roads. I'm running 6/5 kg/mm (for some reason the spring guys in NZ still operate in imperial) and that is about 335/280 lbs/in, and wow cornering is great.
Oddly I was pricing springs for another set of shocks and I spoke to a guy at one of the two main spring suppliers who had never heard of kg/mm and that all springs were made in lbs, so I said it's actually lbs/inch and he said he'd been doing this for years and inches have nothing to do with it... I tried to explain spring rate but it was a lost cause... wow... dealing with specialists is always a pleasure.

Re: what MSNZ-associated club to join
Yes - I tried to get the club MANZ afiliated about 8 - 9 years ago. What put a damper on things is that for us to hold an event we had to "apply" for a permit - even if it was a drive to somewhere. And we had to pay for the permit which would have then meant people who wanted to attend the event had to pay for it.marinerbluemx5 wrote:i need to be join a MSNZ-associated club to be allowed to enter the mx5 in some hillclimbs and time trials and the like

I'm actually part of the Auckland Car Club who is Manz afiliated and organise a lot of motorsport type events.
I can pass on thier details and entry form if you wish.
I'm still keen to run a "motorsport" division within the club.
If there is enough interest I might look into it a little further.

The Sports Car Club is a good place to start, not least because the annual membership fee is probably one of the lowest in the country.
Marinerblue, will you be at the Pukekohe Playday on Monday?

I belong to the Auckland Car Club and the Taupo Car Club, which are good for circuit races. ACC organises motorkhanas but nothing for hillclimbs or the like.
You might want to try the Pukekohe Car Club, www.pukekohecarclub.co.nz, as they do hill climbs and sprints. There was a sprint on 28 Jan and two more on 11 and 25 Feb.
