Hi Luke, i have just de-powered my steering rack & some things to think about like there was an "F" stamped on the support yoke that i only noticed when putting back together so not sure if its important to go back the same way as it looks symmetrical. Also when torqueing the the adjusting cover nut to 43 in lbs three times?Does this mean baccking off three times as well as it doesnt say!Instead of crimping pipes or welding the holes in the fittings i went to Waitemata Hydraulics in Henderson & bought some brass blanks to fit the old threads. Also to save weight i have removed both towing hooks[they weigh a ton! plus the two brackets above the front brace mounts attached to the chassis rail.Good luck!

Hi Luke,
From White Lightning here in Auckland.
This is how I Tidied up My Rocker cover etc .
Used high temp engine enamel from spray can.
As you can see came up quite well and has proved to be durable,
Good luck with your project
Regards Ken.

hey everyone,
sorry i haven posted much lately, i havent been able to get onto the site because of some error,
anyways, not much has happened since i last posted, i have pulled off my rocker cover and am half way through sanding it back for being polished, i have decided to go with the polished look considering my radiator and intercooler are already polished,
also before i started sanding it back i cut the front to expose the cam gears, at this stage theres no benefit besides the fact that i like the look of it but hopefully one day i will get adjustable cam gears,
i have been talking to Gazza and i think i wll probably end up buying his td04 and manifold next week which will save me a lot of work and keep the project moving forward

Yea that does look really good, i haden't considered HPC coating at all, what would it cost to have something like that done?
I havent got too much further this week, im too tight for money so everythings slowing down,
my engine bay is now as stripped as it will probably get,

i just need to spend some time cleaning things up before i start sticking everything back together,

Heres where i have got to with my rocker cover, i just need to do a bit more sanding down the middle then i will take it into my mates work and give polishing a go.
I also intend on polishing my intake manifold and the water outlets and maybe other little bits and pieces but im still trying to decide if i should do it myself or just take it somewhere, my fingers are just sick of sanding, lol

ok, i lied, the car wasnt as apart as it will ever be, i started trying to get everything clean, and found it not that easy.
so , i took this out of the way,

now i just have a big empty hole to play with,

i just figured it would be easier in the end to pull this all out as im going to be doing the clutch and a few other bits and pieces to the motor too.

I use Koala Kare washable degreaser from Supercheap, then i dull the car with Scotchbrite pads & wipe over again with Dulon Autothane grease & wax remover. I then sprayed with Dulon Autothane primer/filler diluted with Dulon two way thinners approx 1 part paint to 1 part thinners.Spraypainting is a bit of a learned process of keeping the gun parrallel to the surface at the ideal distance away to give you a good wet looking coating without runs.Leave any runs or imperfections to dry for half an hour or more, sand & wipe again with Dulon wax remover,re-spray the area.Your Garage needs to be well-lit & as clean & dry as possible & spray only on low humidity dry weather days like what weve been getting lately.I also put a big tarp on the floor, to catch any spillage & reduce dust.I,m not a proffesional painter so there may be a better way! Good-luck & dont forget to use the proper mask!!!! Adios amigo

Instead of using sand which is corse, you could bead blast them instead.poison wrote:A: DON'T SAND BLAST!!!!! them, the alloy is soft and will get messed up. Get them polished, not as expensive as you think and looks soooo good....
They can use plastic beads instead of metal beads which dosen't hurt the metal at all.
