MX5 Racing/ Sprints Pukekohe

Post by MX FVE » Wed Oct 01, 2008 8:29 pm

Hi People,
Anyone in Auckland interested in racing/sprints etc at Pukekohe ? Well I had a call from Bob White who is involved with the Auckland Car Club, and he pointed out that because the MX5 Club is not affiliated to MANZ (please let's not start a thread as to why not) owners of MX5's currently can't join in on race days because of our non-affiliation. He is offering to anybody interested to join their club as well as belong to the MX5 Club and therefore be allowed to join in with other sports cars racing.
Most of you will know we hold a successful annual driver training day with the MX5 Club and this offer from Bob is for the more serious owners.
He can be contacted tuckshop@xtra.co.nz or mobile 0274 900 548 for more details.
Please note this is for racing your car and is not part of the MX5 Club - Thanks Paul

I tried to get the club MANZ affiliated in the late 90's but no one was interested.
I guess having to apply and pay for a permit to hold all of the events (even mystery runs etc) put a lot of people off.
The easist solution is to join the Auckland Car Club (Been a member since the early 80's!) if you do want to go racing.
The alternative is to have a motorsport division within the club (Tried to get that off the ground too!) where the "division" is MANZ affiliated.

Thanks for posting that Paul, I've sent Bob an e-mail. I'd definitely be interested, I guess my only concern is budget-vs-competitiveness, I'd just be tracking a slow, stock MX5. I've got the basic safety stuff down - rollbar and fire extinguisher - but can't afford all the suspension/power/tyre/tuning that goes into proper racing. I guess what I'm saying is that if they've got a slow enough class for me, I'd like to give it a go :D
