Amber Bulbs
Hi all
Does anyone know where I can get Amber 1157 bulbs? These are the same as a brake / tail bulb with the dual filaments. They are standard in the US with clear indicators and have the turn signal and park light together. All I can find here is the single 1156 bulb.
I sent an email off to Hella and got this back.
“Thank you for your email. We do not stock this bulb and I do not know where you could purchase it.”
Wonderful.

Hi Mike
firstly - no, I don't know where to get them... but are the turn filaments amber and the park filament white?
If the whole thing can be amber then a small pot of orange Tamiya model paint works pretty well (Lasts a few years at least - and can just be repainted), or as a second option those orange bulb condoms, but they don't seem to last very long and the colour is not as good...
Otherwise... and for a lot more hassle I'm pretty sure you could get something online - and maybe in an LED version - e.g. googling gets me this http://www.eautoworks.com/product-Led-113776.htm and this http://www.nextag.com/serv/main/buyer/O ... er&x=0&y=0
cheers

Amber Bulbs
Quite a while ago I brought back 2 x clear indicator housings from the States complete with the harness and bulbs. I preferred the clear look to the orange reflector in the NZ models. One of the amber bulbs has blown and I need a replacement. I tried painting one but the WOF place knocked it back even though it’s passed two warrants at the same station in a row previously with the same bulb.
What I might do is just replace the whole unit with a standard one, get the WOF and then change it back. I’m sure I can get spare globes out of the US for a couple of $.
Another dilemma are my personalised plates, NO KIDZ. Now that we have one, it’s not really working for me. Perhaps a caption plate would help?
1. She told me she was on the pill, Yea Right
2. NO KIDZ, on board
3. NO KIDZ, today
Rach Is not too enthusiastic about option 1, but that’s my favourite so far.
Cheers
Mike.

Re: Amber Bulbs
That's what I'd recommend... it is a similar deal with my visors. The visors actually partially block my view, but I still have to have them mounted. A cap works much better as it goes up and down with my headmx5mike wrote:What I might do is just replace the whole unit with a standard one, get the WOF and then change it back.

"NO KIDZ fit in here"
doesn't work... a child seat is working perfectly well in mine...
"NO KIDZ... when I bought it" ?
Mike, I hate to say it, but I think it is time to sell the plate :0
Remember, it could be worse, Rach might next be asking you to sell it and buy a Previa

are you trying to get a single or dual filament bulb?
I used amber tinted bulbs when i removed the amber tinted lens inside the assembly.pretty sure i got them from repco
you can also get chrome coated bulbs which are clear to look at normally but glow amber when powered on.Pretty sure the BA falcons use them.
The new bulb has a different locating pin layout than a standard non tinted bulb but i just filed one of the pins off and they have been in for 4 years now without falling out of the holder, so that good enough for me.
googling "amber 1157 bulb" on google images comes up with some great stuff including 1157 L.E.D replacement lamps in clear amber and red. (yum yum)
