AAAARRRGHHH! BLARDY WOF INSPECTORS!!!!
So i take my car down to my local independant testing station for a WOF. This is the same place ive been getting WOFS from for the last 5 years.
The (new guy) Inspector comes back and tells me that my car failed due to a chip in the windscreen...a chip thats been there since 2004 and has passed every WOF since then until now...
He then told me i needed a cert for my Koni's.....
so i go away and get a new screen fitted to the car (thanks AMI) and go back to the testing station.
I show the guy the new screen and he asks me about the suspension.
I lift the bonnet and show him the blardy huge Cert plate on the firewall and tell him that ....I GOT IT WHEN I FITTED THE TURBO CHARGER SYSTEM TO THE CAR TWO YEARS AGO!!!!!! (The turbo system that the dork totally failed to notice!) AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

Well there’s your error….

But seriously these places make me angry. I want to take my car to the VTNZ for a decent safety check, not some back-yard grease pit who does a half ass'd check. But I have been put off these testing stations by ignorant testers who find the car to be all safe, but get wound up because it’s been ‘modified’ so it’s a big nasty racing car that shouldn’t be on the road.
I’ve been failed on a sub-woofer in the boot (WTF-as he couldn’t check inside properly), high headlights (dumb-ass checked after the car had been jacked up for bearing checks), my cold air intake (he thought it was the fire wall), blue lights under the car (I’d even printed out the cosmetic lighting rules from the LTNZ site, to prove my car complied, but nope a fail), and he even made a comment about my style bar – but was going to let me off “this time”. So I had to wait 28 days and go somewhere else.
And it’s this attitude that scares all the young guns away, so they end up getting dodgy WOF’s or none at all. Yet if the testing people were more clued up on what is safe and what isn’t or had even been “a kiwi” for more than a week they might be able to police the issues more wisely.
I'll never go to these places again, I'm happy to say I have found a decent local workshop who do a decent full check-up and warn me of things that may need attention before the next WOF.

Ha Ha Ha! That's the SAUSAGE FACTORY for you!! (Testing stations)SLYDIT wrote:i take it as a bit of a compliment that the guy didnt think the turbo was aftermarket..... but still..what a wally!
ie, MEAT goes in one door and half an hour later Sausages (if your lucky) come out the other!
You would think that if you did W.O.F inspections 8 hours a day/ 5 days a week, you could actually be consistant???
I have a hunch some people might have "control issues" in this field of work!
I do W.O.F inspections as part of my job, but I just love all the various challenges you get from other techy jobs that come in the workshop! I most certainly couldn't do their job!
W.O.F s are simple really and are an visual inspection (most of the time), anything you are unsure of, consult the V.I.R.M (bible) look up the topic and there you go etc..
My advise Slydit, would be to stick with a workshop who knows about this type of car and have atleast some knowledge of the product!!!!

Nor I. Capital Mazda in Welly is just trouble for a warrant. They insisted I had certification for my adjustable Konis! So I said thank you very much, and continued to get my warrant with no problems at ABC Brake and Clutch. Never had a problem there.

FYI a good source of info may be found here
http://www.ltsa.govt.nz/certifiers/virm ... index.html and also tells you how to complain (for which there is also free number 0800699000). If you got time on your hands it sometims makes for an interesting read

This is excellent! If people want to modify their cars safely, than the V.I.R.M is a very good guideline for what is permissable and what is not.
Also the information is up to date with all the amendments so no surprises!
All inspectors should be of the same ability and level........
I have been doing W.O.F's now for 3 years and had no complaints from LTNZ. My attitude is on the side of thorough and consistant inspections.
I always ensure the customer knows why their vehicle has been logged as a fail before they leave. Sometimes people complain but that is normaly due to the parting of cash mostly!

Never a mention of my koni's - shows a lack of consistency, fortunately for me. They got all screwed up over my MSNZ authority card.petercristina wrote:They insisted I had certification for my adjustable Konis! "
