New member - and price of MX5s in NZ vs UK/AUS
Hi Guys first post on here although I did contribute to the old e mail list occasionally. Been a member of UK Owners club for about 7 years and ran one of the UK regions for a while, I've now moved out to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. I'm coming over to NZ in a couple of weeks, just for a few days, staying in Aukland. Anywhere that we "must" go and see. Any MX happenings between 26th and 29th May?
All the best

Hi Geoff,
Are they that much cheaper in the UK?
It may have to do with the frontal impact regulations here for the earlier models??
Anthony.

The Australians never had the "open door policy" to used imports that New Zealand has "enjoyed" for many years now. My understanding is that
earlier Eunos Roadsters (Japanese models) do not comply with safety needs and as such are either used for racing or as spare parts.
A perusal of the following link will give you an idea on NZ prices :

I'm going through the application to import at the moment, so will let you know how I get on. Regarding early imports from Japan, my partners daughter has just purchased a 1989 Roadster and she payed A$13000. It's a nice enough car. My car in UK is worth about £2500, or A$6000 so even with the taxes and duties it's still worth the exercise.
As a look at the prices on NZ's TradeMe would indicate, Australian $13000 would be a huge price comparatively here. A good 1989 or 1900 here would probably cost between $5 - $6.000.
One thing about importing your own, you'll knoe exactly what you're getting.
Anyway, good luck with it.

Hi
it looks like your timing is excellent...
Willie & Anne's Wild west Ramble Sunday 27th May
Meeting at the the Old Albany Tavern in the Albany Village at 10:00am for a 10:30am departure
We will be winding our way through west Auckland countryside, passing lush pasture and beautiful mature bush, and including some simple questions to answer along the way
While returning to Albany there will be a quiz to hone the minds and be ready for Lunch at the Old Albany Tavern
Bring a pen, an Auckland Map and some fine weather!!
Please let Willie or Anne know if you intend to stay on for Lunch afterwards so they can advise the Tavern of expected numbers
Call Willie or Anne on (09) 817 3327
or Willie on 021-WILLIE (945-543)
or email willie@ihug.co.nz by Thursday 24th of May
let us know if you're coming and how many you are.
As an Ex-TyneTees Region Coordinator, it'll be nice to meet you.
Cheers

Re: New member
Hi Geoff, welcome to the forum. I'll probably not get to the next Northern club run, but it should be a good one if Willie and Anne are organising it.gwalton wrote:Hi Guys first post on here although I did contribute to the old e mail list occasionally.
Re: MX5 prices here, they may surprise you. I know of an early one that needed a minor amount of work and sold for NZ$3500. You can get them pretty cheaply here now.
Cheers
