Stereo and Seat Speakers
I'm planning to replace the original radio set up in my MX5 - 1995 NA. At the same time am considering fitting head rest speakers. What is the recommendation of members regarding stereo model and is there a kit you can get to fill the gap that will be left after the removal of the original. Secondly, while there are wires under the seat for headrest speakers what is involved in fitting the speakers. I note that some cars have holes drilled in the leather seats where the speakers fit. Are there brackets to hold the speakers in place? and what speakers are most suitable to fit? I'm planning to get the leather seats reconditioned and this would be a suitable time to have alterations made to the head rests. I will get a professional to fit the new system and speakers.
I'm in Wellington so if any members can recommend an installer this would be appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.

I would suggest that you have a look at the USA MX5 (miata) site.
http://forum.miata.net/vb/
There are a lot of articles in there about the headrest speakers, and how to
fit / change them and some of the traps.
Also articles and threads on fitting aftermarket Headunits.
Look in the garage section at the bottom of the homepage.
This site is a mine of information.
For wiring diagrams try, http://www.madracki.com/miata/ they are for the US market but are mostly right for the NZ and JDM cars. Just beware of the LHD vs RHD variations.

I followed Chris's suggestion, as per the link below, everything fit in well, and, at least to my ears, all sounds well.

For what it is worth, I replaced my late 93 NZ new factory tape deck with a Sony CD player. This left about a 15mm gap above the cubbyhole, expertly blanked off by my installer. As I deliberately bought a CD head unit with a black finish, my install looks factory. In due course I itend to fit 100mm speakers to my head rests (mine have plugs in the carpet but no headrest speakers), but did change the factory door speakers for some 160mm Pioneer 2 ways with pleasing results.

I bought 2 cheap pairs of 6" speakers from the warehouse, and just trimmed them and the seat foam to fit. The wiring under the seats needed a little bit of work, but nothing a pair o0f scissors and a roll of tape couldn't fix. Have a look here for a picture. There are a number of pictures on that site that need to be removed
, so I'll up date it as soon as i can. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/323794/2
