Car immobiliser for insurance and the name of a good mechani
Hi,
I just purchased a 1989 model and have been told by my insurers that I need
a dual immobiliser.
1. Can you recommend any insurers?
2. Can you recommend any brand of immobiliser that is well suited to
our cars?
I would also like to have this car thoroughly checked by a mechanic who
specialises in MX5's. Who do list members recommend in Auckland?
Regards,
Jolyon Rusell

Jolyon, I use a insurance broker and I never get asked about an immobiliser.
I really think thats a bit tough. I you live in Auckland can give you the
name of a broker. They find the best deals.

Greetings Joly,
The _only_ people that would insure me are NationalAuto Club (NAC) and
its costing me approx $1600 P.A for full-cover including the rims and
sound. Might be a little different for you due to age differences
between us
The alarm on my car is a Dynatron with dual immobilizer and they were
totally happy with it
Cheers

Hi, If I may put in my tuppence worth.
When I insured my MX5. AMI said I needed an immobiliser but on further
questioning what they were trying to say was that without an immobiliser I
would have an additional excess on any claim... This I think was in the
region of $500 in addition to the statutory excess. Ergo as I could not get
an immobiliser for that figure...

My insurance is through Westpac to Lumley Insurance. No
special conditions and no extra excesses for not having an
alarm etc.
Cheers
Colin.

This appears to vary with where you live.
Here in Blenheim, the alarm with immobiliser is not a requirement but if the
car is stolen and you have an approved system installed, then the standard
(in my case $250.00) excess is waived. I am insured with AMI. Because of my
background with AMI, they were happy for me to do my own installation, but
normally the system must be installed by an approved installer.
