Hi to all members
Re the speeding issue, I've carefully read all the responses - and there's
been some very good related points made regarding increased levels of early
driver education and the need for the Government to start putting it's fuel
and road taxes back into the roads - where they truly belong.
So I've put together a draft for a letter to be e-mailed to the Minister of
Transport, Mark Gosche, stressing these points. If any member would like to
put their name on it in addition to mine, please post an affirmative in the
next 7 days - or please feel free to send an affirmative to my personal e-mail
address.
Then we'll light a fire under the Minister's proverbial. The more members
involved, the hotter the fire. This is the draft:
Hon Mark Gosche
Minister of Transport
12th February 2006
Dear Minister
It's becoming more widely known, by the day, that the government fuel and road
tax take is not being spent in proper proportion on roading improvements, nor
is it being spent in proper proportion on road safety programmes such as early
driver education.
We would like to know why this is the case and if you are planning to rectify
this situation.
As fuel prices increase, we know your tax take increases, because we are well
aware that the tax take is a fixed proportion of the overall fuel price at the
pump. We would like to know what you are doing with the extra money.
We await your swift reply with expectation.
Regards
...
Cheers to all
Mark
