I'm amazed at how many people say to me that I must be a hairdresser to be
driving an MX5, several folk I have spoken to(that dont know that i was!)
have said this to me.
Any of you out there have been or are in this occupation???...or is
it just me???

I have owned my car since 1995 and have never been asked if I am a
hairdresser!
Of course that may be because I am 5'10' square with a goatee, an evil glint

red tipped vampirish teeth and carry a cleaver.
You I am guessing dont look like that!

This old chestnut.
It's just a stupid stereotype that some fool coined and caught on. It's
like saying that all V8 owners have small ...ummmm packages (this is
after all a family forum).
It just shows their ignorance.
I have been called a hairdresser - but it is normally by 40 something
accountant types that wouldn't know a good handling car from the bus
that they catch to the city each day. It must be jealously as they
never seem to yell it out when they are driving their boring old people
mover. After all when's the last time you had a fun drive with 4
screaming kids in the back seat.
What makes me laugh is - like Colin, I'm a big bloke - have a messed up
nose from years of competitive fighting, and (proudly state) that I have
no fashion sense at all - there is no way I could be a hairdresser. (no
offence meant to people who actually look after hair).
I prefer to listen to all the people who comment on the "nice car", or
pop over to have a look.

Hi All,
As an astronomer/educator I gather that I must in no way fit the
"stereotypical" hairdresser format. I agree that is usually envious
looks from the drivers of people movers that makes owning an MX-5 so
much fun!
Going topless rocks!
Cheers

Well being the gorgeous lad I am
I have never been
accused of being a hairdresser, although I have been accused
of driving a hairdressers car
Its also been suggested that the MX5 is a Gay car, but
given the choice I would rather be accused of driving a Gay
car than a hairdressers car Going with stereotypes
thus Gay being chiseled good looks, fashionable and well
groomed, and strangely often seen in the company of gorgeous
women . And a hairdresser well. hmmm lets see.
A seriously bad taste F**ked up hair style and fashion
sense. And of course an air head.
Take your pick., as who cares what others think, we drive
them as they are fun and handle well. And with the addition
of a wee turbo they fly.
If MX5 drivers were insecure wed get a Isuzu Big Horn (my
God they knew their market didnt they) or the Pejero
(Spanish for Lazy or masturb8) again they knew their market.
Be proud, MX5 rocks, (unless they are pink or have a floral
top) sorry Cameo Cream by the way youre either a lady
with a good sense of humour. or. I dont want to
think about it.

The first time I heard that was from Clarkson on "Top Gear" so I blame
him. He said that the MX5 was for hairdressers and old blokes who liked

Yes, we love heavenly bodies, especially topless ones! A common
question at the observatory is can the telescopes see Oriental Parade.
They are usually disappointed to find out we can't!
The problem for a topless astronomy is its usually damn cold! The best
topless observing I have had is in Rarotonga, nice and warm.
The best dressed observing, at 14,000 feet at Mauna Kea, Hawaii.
Temperature was -15!
We have two silver Mx-5's owners at Carter, our lovely 1990 NA and my
boss's 1993 NB. We get a lot of people taking pictures of them with the
observatory in the background.
Cheers

AND I SHOULD THINK NOT!!! Fossicking under her bonnet indeed. There are laws
about that kind of thing!
Seriously, at 57, balding, overweight, and looking like Frankenstein's
Monster's ugly brother, (but with a wonderful self image), I am also
unlikely to be mistaken for a Hairdresser.
I note however that my wife's hairdresser still has the same receptionist,
same tats, piercings, chains etc, and still ripping the heads off live
chickens, maybe we should club in and get her an MX5, it would improve our
macho image!

Hey I don't think I'm insecure but then I have an MX5 (own two both BRG but
my daughter uses one of them), an Isuzu Bighorn (short wheelbase 3 door,
blue) and a Honda Odyssey (silver). I'm definitely not a hairdresser as is
obvious from the state of my hair but I do know a couple of hairdressers.
I'm looking at selling the Isuzu as it's done 220,000km so time to replace
it. I'm seriously looking at an Isuzu Wizard but my daughter reckons due to
arthritis I better not. It would make me a hobblit in a Wizard!
I'm a computer / radio / electronics tech so that means I have bad hair
(don't care), scuffed shoes (don't care), no fashion sense (don't care).

Funny thing is, one of the guys at work drives MR2 and called my car
"hairdressers car"! Hairdresser I am not, that's for sure. Once, I cut my
own hair with the buzz cutter and lawyer I was working with at the time
asked me if I needed representation in the court case against the bugger
that cut my hair LOL
Not sure if any of you guys have seen the article but I have read somewhere
that new Chrysler 300C has been chosen as the Car of the Year by OZ Gay
community, so we don't have to worry about that stereotype for now anyway LOL.
I am not religious but God bless Mazda engineers for creating such a fun
