treating her to a new coat
My 91 BRG is in pretty good shape with original paint. But there are
little scratches, chips and a few minor "dings" around which affect
about 5 panels and the rear bumper. Nothing major but I've been
thinking of treating her to a new coat... y'know get all the little
dings taken care of and a new surface all 'round -- hopefully so she
looks like she's just come off the showroom floor.
Has anyone recently (in Auckland) done a similar exercise? If so can
you give me some ballpark idea of ow much $$$ I might be in for? And do
you have any hints, warnings, recommendations to help me on my way?

Hi Ross
I know you only wanted an Auckland reference however for the record I had my
1990 painted in Hamilton December last year by Bandon Street Panel and
Paint. Similar background to yours. All sound but just a bit scruffy. I
stripped down the car ready for sanding and panel work. Cost me 2k. Looks
superb.
Cheers

Maybe it's worth getting any dings taken out first yourself using one of the
"paintless" ding repair guys. But ask around they are not all good. When the
paint shop gets the dent man in they will add 20% (or something) mark-up +GST.
Paint shops will be able to recommend one.

If you're intimating that I should paint in red... why should I go from
Classic to Common?! (And then how would I tell it from my daughter's?)

Hi Ross, I have used Bandon St Paint and Panel on numerous occasions. The
two Steve's, the owner and the foreman are both very good to deal with and
do an excellent job. When I bought my current car I went to them to get the
hardtop colour coded.

Hi Ross,
There is a chap listed under "Paintless Dent Repairs" in the phone book, a
cellphone number I think, I used him a couple of years ago when I first got
the 5 and he was very good very quick and gave me a "Club Discount", I think
it cost about $120 all up
