Hardtops

Hi

I've recently bought a Eunos Roadster and am considering getting a hard top
for it.
Would someone please let me know what's involved in removing the hood and
fitting a top... is it a major exercise?

Also is there anyone in the Canterbury area who's going to the Classic Car
day in Ashburton next Sunday? or someone who has attended in the
past... I usually take my Zephyr, but am wondering what the response
would be if I turned up in what a lot of those attending would consider a
riceburner... :)

Cheers

Hi Mike,
You don't have to remove the hood, it just folds back as normal and the hard
top fastens onto a couple of lugs at the top of the boot the screen and two
latches by the seatbelts.
You will have to check you have the additional latch points.
On the top of the boot, there are two chrome plates, these have two lugs
attached, just see if tour equipped with the latch points and lugs and away
you go.

PS Where in Canterbury are you?

We took our MX5 last year in the Classic Car day and there were a lot of
Minis there to so
didn't feel to out of it. Considering going again this year.

Hi Biff

Thanks - that seems incredibly easy!... no I don't have the mounting
lugs at the back - just two chrome plates which I assume are replaced with
the lugs...

I've seen a few tops advertised - mainly asking $1500, which I think a bit
expensive - or am I just mean...:)
As the car is white I figure I can use almost any dark colour top if I can't
find a white one, which should make things easier...

Thanks for your help

You can buy hard tops from about $1000 on up, depending on condition.

Try www.mx5mart.co.nz for both the hood and the mountings

Mike

There is one on TradeMe at the moment - current bid at $1000.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/list ... 718127.htm

We sold ours fairly easily last year for $1300 so although it may seem
expensive the asking price of around $1500 is about what the market
seems willing to wear.

They are very easy to fit - need two people because of their size but
it only takes about 1 minute to take it off or put it on. They are
quite light - I could carry ours on my own.

Hmm, I always managed on my own, but would perhaps be difficult inside a
confined garage, you don't want to be knocking into the fixtures.

Mike, the lugs screw into those chrome plates so you may not have to buy the
whole plate.
Give Mark a call at Mazline in chch, he's a good guy, knows his MX5's and is
always willing to help.
They are on Morehouse Ave just across from Hagley Park.

I have seen prices around the $1500 and that's too expensive, if you can
wait I have seen them around the $1000.00, check out Ross's site,
www.mx5mart.co.nz or eBay, or www.trademe.co.nz hope this helps.

I just bought a set of the lugs (pins) and side clamps from Ross at
www.mx5mart.co.nz for $100+gst and courier.

Pins are an easy screw-in install... clamps are bit more fiddly as you
have to remove the two pastic body panels just to the rear of the
doors. Took me about an hour to do both sides.

cheers,

A Silver hardtop up for auction on TradeMe was passed in this evening
without *any* bids having been made!

That's probably because another on sold for only $800 a month back.

I saw that, but it's a long way to Palmerston N from Timaru... :)

Thanks for all the info you guys have posted - much appreciated, and at
least I now know what's involved...

Great List - keep up the good work
