Hi guys,
Its tyre replacement time... I have a budget of no more than $600 ie.
$150 a tyre. Does anyone out there have any recommendations? Both
Dunlop Formula 901's and Yoko A539's? sneak in this budget but am
open to any suggestions. For the record, I'd like a tyre that will perform
in wet and dry, with good cornering ability and will last. Maybe I'm
asking a bit much for $150 a tyre?
Cheers... Derek.

Try the Bridgestone G3 - a lot of clubmembers run them or their predecessor, the
G2 & they seem to be very good. The Yoko's also have received good reviews...

I just purchased 4 Dunlop FM901s from Frank Allen's in Auckland. Dunlop are
phasing out the 901, so they are going cheapish. I got them well under $150
per tyre. I think Wheel alignment was around $70 and the all up price was
under $600.
The low profile 901s are noisy but the standard 185 65 16s are not. A
brilliant tyre. They drive as good in the wet as in the dry. Well
recommended.
Make sure you get the tyre insurance for about $40. This gives you free
puncture repair, balancing, rotation and even if you destroy a tyre they
replace it for free. Very useful when my wife destroyed a $300+ tyre on our
Subaru wagon.
PS. Frank Allen are open to negotiation and some of the guys like beer
... Good luck

I agree on the G3s. Also if you're in Akld, highly recommend the guys at
Firestone in Newmarket on Great South Road. They have given me fantastic
service!

I've been using Barum's on my Mitsi work car. Have to be the most underrated
tyre available. Quiet, great wet grip, good in dry and nice steering feel. My
brother has them on his MX. $158 fitted and balanced at Marshall Tyres.

Hi there. from memory the Dunlop formula 901's are a
softer compound tyre (Tread wear around 180-200) so
youll be lucky to get 25,000km out of them, just a
thought as you noted that you wanted them to last.
