Gidday,
I ended up getting rescued by the AA last night after my battery had
insufficient charge to start the car. They now don't only start your car
- they also offer to sell you a new battery.
The good bit was that they had batteries which are perfect for the MX5.
They're completely sealed, fit in the battery holder and work with the
standard bracket. And it was 'only' $114 including delivery and fitting.
Not exactly cheap, but less than the $200+ for the factory battery and
it doesn't require the gas venting kit either.
This was in Wellington, I assume other areas have the same sort of
arrangement.

PS. what was the 'delivery' component... wasn't the AA already there?!

Hi,
I just got a replacement 'Gel Type' battery from John Andrew Ford in
Auckland and cost was $160.00 (incl. GST) using MX5 Club discount.
They have come down in price.
It is the Panasonic branded one.
Regards,
Anthony.
