Fascinating, but...
This registration requires an "Authorization Code"... can you enlighten
us on how to obtain one?

Anybody see this?
Unfortunately I got called out to a fault last night and didn't get home
untill 5am so getting some sleep seemed more important. Should be able to
download the VCD 30 minute version later today though.

I downloaded the video presentation and what a waste of time! There was
only a few minutes of the car after about 20 minutes of hype at the
unveiling.
Saw a lot more of the car on the Japanese site:

I have just registered to get the information as it becomes available. I
notice there was a section asking what magazines you read. If everyone puts
down 'Franchise New Zealand' for that, they might do me a contra deal on a
new MX5...

Mazda? It's the first full redo of MX-5 since 1989, of course. Mazda has stuck closely to the lightweight two-door, two-seat, rear-wheel drive philosophy of course.

But every panel is new, and the car is larger. The brand says it wanted this car to be virtually indistinguishable from its predecessors at 100 metres, so - save for the aggressive, shark-like nose with honeycomb intake - the styling changes only becoming apparent as you get closer.

The interior treatment brings a lift quality and design, plus more hip, shoulder, and elbow room (extra storage space, too). It gets an adjustable steering wheel and side airbags. The roof is a manual Z-folding soft-top with a glass rear window. There will be an optional hard top as well.

Power is drawn from a beefed up version of the familiar aluminium-alloy 2.0-litre MZR four-cylinder engine that punches out 118kW at 6700rpm and 188Nm at 5000rpm, mated to either a short-throw six-speed manual or automatic gearbox with steering wheel change paddles.

Point of reference: The current car's iron-block 1.8 produces 106kW at 6500rpm and 165Nm at 4500rpm, and offers a choice of six-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.

Much that underpins the new MX-5 is borrowed from the RX-8, including the core backbone unibody, double wishbone front suspension, multi-link rear-end (replacing double wishbones on the old car), six-speed manual gearbox, differential and dashboard structure.

Claiming a 47 percent improvement in torsional rigidity and a 22 percent increase in bending rigidity, Mazda promises scuttle shake will be a thing of the past.

The MX-5 will be here by the second half of the year,
