Car aerials
Hi folks,
I am wanting to change the radio aerial on my MX5 for an electric one. I
recall some time ago a mention about having to be wary of the depth of
aerial (under the guard)
Can anyone advise the maximum depth and or any brand of aerial that is
suitable for the MX5 and what sort of price and availability I'm looking at ?
Also I am planning a trip to USA later in the year would it be
cheaper/easier to pick one up over there does anyone know?
Cheers Joan H

I needed to replace just the antenna section in my MX5 as I already had
an electric one. What shocked me was that John Andrew Ford-Mazda was 2/3
the cost than one from another supplier.
With the $NZ dollar at 72 and predicted to go as high as 75 cents, I
might be forgiven for thinking you would be better off picking up the
entire assembly in the US. For example, my Koni shocks cost 2/3 there
(after the $ exchange) than what they would have cost me if I purchased
them in NZ.

Yes Bill I suspected it may be better to pick one up over there...
Any one able to give me any help on what I actually need?
Maybe I can bring back some extras
for interested parties
Cheers Joan

I'd go on line, find the yellow pages directory for where you will be,
search to see if they have a web site or make a quick call to the US and
ask them how much for an electronic antenna assembly. You could also
search Miata.net
BTW, given the size of the motor assembly, you'll need an extra suit
case to be a "mule" for other members

Yes well my husband already has motor bike bits for me to bring back and is
now planning Alfa parts so maybe one extra suitcase won't be enough already

Sounds like my closest mate, a "petrol head", the person who I stated
describes our list as "hairdressers", and who prepares a 'shopping list'
every time I make a trip (about 3x a year) to the States. Needless to
say, my MX5 needs take preference and he is often left with nothing more
than my allocation of alcoholic spirits when I re-enter NZ

My petrol head mate is always asking me to bring back stuff for his
Mustang, Classic trucks, etc. Usually I've been too loaded down with MX5
stuff. I travel VERY light, just carry-on so I'm through customs
quickly when entering the US. The return trip home: well that's usually
a different story
The swinging licence plate bracket is on my "possible next trip" list.

I thought that Alfa had improved their rustproofing to the point that you
now only had to replace most parts ONCE a year?

True but our cars are all 20+ years old
And you can never have too many spare parts - I'm frequently told
