INTERESTED IN YOUR 92 Classic Red

Post by 1Miata » Thu Jan 27, 2005 6:07 pm

I got exactly the same one last week, but from a punter "presently residing
in england". I assumed from the quality of the English that it was a
"Nigerian scam variant" so ignored it.

Yes it is. The chq will be fake and may take 3 months to be proven so, by
which time the 'change' you sent is long gone. Lots of classic car owners get
approached by the same kind of person.

I had the identical wording in an Email to me about the 1.8 engine I am
selling.

I replied to the initial Email then smelt a big rat when the response came
back with no details or specific questions about the engine. I replied
asking the person what exactly they thought they were buying. To date - no
response.

I have referred them to Yahoo abuse as suggested.

Cheers

Don

Consumer magazine (I'm fairly sure) did an article on such things. There are a
lot of greedy people in this world, or I should say greedy and stupid so these
guys will always make a buck. The best one I've had yet is still the Westpac
password one, it was a perfect replica of the original site. Mind you if you'd
had a BRG MX5 you'd know it was a big 'have' if they offered you money :-)

Don't be surprised if he still wants to buy the car, have you ship it,
and pay by cheque :-)

Hi Keith

Don't have a bar of it.

Several Registered Dealers have been ripped of in a similar way over recent
months.

Once you confirm the cheque is banked, they will stop payment. It takes at
least 2 weeks to clear an over

Seas cheque.

So maybe the trick is not to tell them you have banked the cheque and if
it clears you are the winner :-) ohhh I have a bad streak !
