In the Hawkes Bay & I'd really appreciate if someone could advise of a competent person/outfit to fit a new soft-top within (say) 150km of Napier to my '92 MX.
- I don't want to muck up a perfectly good new hood by doing it myself.

If you don't mind coming down to Wellington for a half a day I can recommend a really good fitter here

Charman Motor Trimmers in Onekawa supply and fit soft tops.
They supplied one for my NA a year ago. I saved myself $200 by fitting it myself.
They were very obliging and offered to help me out or take over the installation if I got stuck.

Thank you one and all for the help. I think Charman's sounds like the simplest thing for me, much as I like my trips to Wgtn

I just fitted a basic Robbins top with fixed plastic window to my NA this weekend. I've had no experience at all doing this and although it took me about 8 hours all up I got it done.
The biggest problem I had was when I tried to fit the metal retaining plate (that clamps the rear of the roof and the rear deck carpet clips to) upside down! No wonder the angle seemed wrong.
The instructions with the Robbins top were adequate but the photocopied pictures of very poor quality.
I had no problem adjusting the window seals either. The most difficult part was getting the roof to latch to the top of the windscreen frame for the first time. That new roof is very tight! By adjusting the latches for maximum reach (leaving the car in the sun for an hour to soften the top) and with the help my wife and daughter, the latches were able to be closed. It was then a simple matter of unlatching and readjusting one side at a time for correct closing.
Total cost of the job was one Robbins roof with non zip window delivered for $540.00 (Trademe) and a day of my time.
Just shows that anyone with simple tools and a bit of care can install their replacement top.
