How much are these worth? I saw one for sale, this afternoon. In good, but not perfect condition having travelled 102k. And am wondering if it's worth buying :? It has both hard & soft tops, Aircon, Momo steering wheel, original "stereo", 7 spoke alloys.

Faults include
- a partial respray on the front right wing & the lower rear-end ( there's overspray on the rear suspension )
- A hand length gouge in the right sill about 2/3 mm deep
- rust in the boot drain channel next to the fuel filler
- lights not lining up with bonnet when turned off
- front wing not lining up with door sill

On the plus side, it went well & felt solid.

It's quite obvious it's had a ding from your description however, if you're buying it it can't  be worth any more than the standard version. If, on the other hand you're selling one, and it is a genuine Sunburst Yellow then it's priceless!
On the serious issue tho' if you want a yellow one, the faults you describe are relatively minor to fix considering the scarcity of this particular model colour (even tho' there are 13 in the club, thanks Topdown!)
Satisfy my curiosity, whats the asking price?

I guess it depends on A) how much they are asking and B) more importantly how much is it worth to you? You could always use the faults as a bargaining tool, but if all else is "OK" with the car and you feel the $$ are reasonable .......... go for it!. Where you are may also have a baring.........here in Marlborough there is not a lot of choice, so it's sit back and wait or go looking out of town which is what I ended up doing...... do cars as good as this one appear often....... remember now is an excellent time to buy, once summer rolls around the owner may either have second thoughts, or a queue of buyers. There will be other more obvious things affecting the value of course......but for me, at the end of the day, it's what you feel the car is worth to you, not what others with no stake in it may feel (if that makes sense).

Just my 2c worth, hope that helps.

I also feel that it's not ( at least yet ... ) worth any more than any other similar aged car. Unless of course I was the owner  .

And with 2 prangs with less than desirable repairs, I'm not in a hurry to make it mine. I forgot to mention that the rear suspension felt agricultural. Crashing and banging when it probably should've behaved better.

The faults are probably minor. I wasn't able or capable of testing it to the extent that the AA can. So am unsure about this.

They were asking ten thousand. Negotiable upwards, but not down!!! For this price I expect it's current faults to vanish. To the point where I ( a non-mechanic, paneleater etc ) cannot find them.

Whilst I'm prepared to travel to find a good one, the price must be right. 2c sounds fine for a 99 Roadster RS Titanium Grey
:D .

I don't want to wait for the spring/summer price rise, but might have to
:(

J Limited 11

I have owned five mx5s including a J LTD 11 and now a 2001 Sunburst series 2.5 (webtune special). $10,000.00 is a very reasonable price if it includes the hardtop. Most of the problems wouldnt take/cost much to rectify. K's are quite low. If you have driven a few MX5s, it soon becomes clear which cars are ok - tautness, noises and general feel. The noise in the rear would need to be checked out to see if its minor or worse. I sold my J LTD 11 2 years ago for quite a lot more than that with 120ks and no hardtop. If I didn't have my current project (red 89), I would definately be keen. Is it still for sale?

I believe that is still for sale. If you or anybody else is interested please email your phone number & I'll pass it on. As I will not pass on their number without their permission ( which I don't have ).

Makes me wonder how the owner of the 91 Sunburst on Trade Me is actually going to get anywhere near the $9995 it's listed for
