The Temp gauge in the MX5's is highly nonlinear. The needle rises to about 1/2 scale at about 175 C, stays there until 125 C, then climbs rapidly to reach "H" at about 140 C. Commonly known as Cold--normal--Toast.
I have done some searching and found an article on the web that gives a good modification. I experimented a bit more and came up with what I consider a better solution. The gauge now rises smoothly to just over 1/2 and as the thermostat opens drops back to just under 1/2, "H" is at 135C
The gauge damping is light enough to allow fairly rapid temp changes to be seen.
I also have low fuel light info and a dash light dimmer circuit and 4 step wiper delay modification available.
