Roof help

Hey there guys. So in real HEAVY rain my soft top is creating a mini lake on my passenger floor. in previous incidents I found that the first of the 3 weather strips contained alot of moisture inside. After doing a search I found out that the sides of these strips can become porous.

So my questions,
1)will putting silicone sealer on these strip ends fix my leak ( my roof is only 3 years old )
2) does a hardtop leak as much as a soft top?

Side rubber sealer fits well against window?
Those old rubber become hard and to conditioning this you can... believe or not ... use Vaseline gel. Spread it on the rubber in very thin coat.

I found this "Vaseline gel" trick on Miata.net. The guy suggested on multiple thread so I tried it and worked well.

Another thing is check the drain pile on front, if that is squashed.

There is also a thin cable that runs through all the way along the edge of
the soft top, if this cable is broken it loses it's tension along the edge
and the rubber does not push against the window as well. These cables often
break, in fact I'd say there are a lot of broken ones and most people don't
realise.

Word of caution on Vaseline, it used to be called petroleum jelly, which
will perish natural rubber. I'm not sure what the window rubbers are made
of, if synthetic they should be fine, if not.... uh ohhhh.... but you could
just play safe and use silicone grease, which feels the same as Vaseline but
won't damage rubber.

Good advise! I'll stop using it (well, only done it once and holding quite bit.)
Either way, do not over done, just need very thin coat.

Couldn't find that wire.

hardtops are leakfree, at least in my experience.  The better noise insulation and (perceived?) stiffiness was a another bonus :]

Rubber is actually a tube. So, it feels spongy and it's normal.
Cable is on the side but not exactly at the edge as I remember, feel it inch or two inwards. While half close the top, you can slip your hand between fabric and frame/metal fitting.

...at least mine...
