JAPANESE IMPORTED vs NEW ZEALAND NEW DIFFERENCES

Post by Steve Greig » Tue Feb 09, 2010 10:50 pm

Just bought a NZ new 2003 1.8 MX5. Can anyone tell me the differences between this and the Japanese import equivalent, not that one is better than the other, I'm just curious to know the exact differences...
Thks.

Not sure about a 2003 ? (NB)

Earlier NA cars had subtle differences like...

NZ/Aus
220km/h speedo
red section of tacho starts at 6500rpm(1)
orange reflectors on all four corners of bumpers
no speed limiter... car will accelerate until power=drag
3 spoke MOMO steering wheel fitted to every car

Japan
180km/h speedo
red section of tacho starts at 7250rpm(1)
orange reflectors front, red at rear
180km/h speed limiter (2)
3 spoke MOMO wheel only on some option packages

Probably others I've forgotten or was not aware of.

(1) actual rev-limit the same... it was just different paint on the tacho
(2) legal requirement for this in Japan was dropped at some stage... it was definitely on the 1.6's but may have been dropped before the NB's came out?
Red '90. Many n/a mods and Link ECU
