Momo Shift Knob

Post by Ben.Nakagawa » Sat Oct 24, 2009 6:44 pm

Ever since I put this in and second day of drive, it start rattling very badly.

I had replaced gear gaiter (rubber boots) other day and it was still in the bin. I picked up and cut up the thick part of rubber and warped the shaft ( actually put in to the knob).
It made pretty tight fit and I also used blue thread locker to the three alen screws at base.

I have read someone in US actually using fuel line to do similar trick.

I'm hoping it will hold this time.

next time I want to change the interior scheme, I will go something more easy/effective option like one made for MX5.

I had to fill some with resin then drill a slightly undersized hole before just to make those pesky multi-fit knobs sit tight!
My next one will have a purpose cut thread to fit - saves the hassles!

The resin approach works best, don't forget to retap the threads for the anchor screws.
Tires aren't cheap!

This anchor screws comes loose very easily.

A resin solution sounds very good. I will try if this did not hold longer. Thanks for tips.

Another possible source would be a some of those worn bush in the shifter itself. If I re tighten the anchor screws, noise will go away for while. So, I'm kind a ruled out this but I may come back to this route as well.

Never needed to worry bout anchor screws with the resin long as you get a tight fit as it works similar to a nyloc nut.

It's holding well so far, it's still tight.

BTW, the source of the noise was loose clip around the centre console surround. the one that surrounding stereo unit.

I took it out (and installed storage pocket under the head unit), I filled the epoxy glue to the hole that holding a clip and refit them.
No annoying noise so far.
