Merlot - Nobody waves...

Post by poison » Fri Mar 11, 2005 9:11 pm

The one I saw was in Mt Eden Rd in Auckland. Anyway talking of waving, during
the last two weeks I let 2 MX5s into the traffic on the way to work, a white
one from the Mobile on Wairau Rd and a red one in the traffic I made a space
for her to change lanes, and both of them did not even give a smile, let alone
a wave.

So I was moaning about this to the guys at work and we got into a "dangerous"
discussion regarding the various types of drivers. Being a) those who don't
say thanks and b) those who speed up to fill the gap when you change lanes.
The general consensus of the main offenders seemed to be, group a) big 4WD's
and b) category seemed to be women (usually middle aged) and again of course
4WD's and Late model accessorised Commodores.

So over the week I let lots of people in and changed lanes a lot too :-) and
to be honest I have to agree wholeheartedly. In all types of drivers some of
them don't say thanks and some speed up, but 4WD's and accessorised late model
commodore drivers are generally rude and aggressive on the road. And almost
every time a car sped up to fill the gap and toot at me for indicating and
changing lanes was a lady of 40+. So I asked some of the ladies at work
regarding their thoughts to lane changing, and they all seemed to think that
people should not change lanes in front of them, usually justifying it with
"safe following distance", so obviously most of them feel it's safer to speed
up in traffic and try to push the car back into the other lane. Maybe it's an
age/driving culture thing but I bet if you do your own personal survey it pans
out right.
