MX5 LSD problem??
Hey guys,
Got my blue MX5 and lately have noticed that when I take off from a turn even slowly the inside tyre chirps a little bit like I'm dropping the clutch a little quick.
But it happens even when I move off slow as I can.. Is that a problem with the diff? It works fine by the way..

Doh, should've said.
1.6 NA, 1990. It still spins both rears and works great, just aside from that little niggle.
Edit: Not saying I've been ripping hectic skids, spun it up on the jack and worked.
Also on the rear seems to be staggered fitment. 185/50/14 front, 195/50/14 rear. I'd prefer standard size all around.. My red one felt much more balanced with all equal tyres (Same engine/diff)

I'm always told they're useless, I had a 1990 before this current one which worked fine as well except for one day on a wet skid pan it just spun one wheel. Certainly didn't do what this one does though when taking off.dynofiend wrote:I thought that early NAs only came with the VLSD as standard, and this is nowhere near good enough to lock the axle as you describe. In fact the VLSD is all but useless for anything other than driving on snow.
Must be a very tight retro fitted item?
Well I'm hoping to turbo it at some point so bonus points if the diff is good for it
Might actually ask the previous owner if he knows anything about the diff too, is there anyway I'd be able to tell when I lift it up and have a look?

If its been fitted with a 1.8 Torsen it will have a rubber damper on the output to the driveshaft.Skilfil wrote:I'm always told they're useless, I had a 1990 before this current one which worked fine as well except for one day on a wet skid pan it just spun one wheel. Problem is it sounds like a mechanical clutch type which some slot into the 1.6 housing. Possible try jacking up the rear and spinning one side at a time, I believe they should spin the same way no matter which wheel/direction
