Have seen a few screwed flat onto the bumper near the top. Mines just on the bracket sitting square in front of the car

I have similar to sprsta but mine's on the other side (and the plate is still straight not nicely angled). My NA was the same but interestingly I had to get a new holder when I changed to the facelifted NB as the "mouth" was a different shape. If you are interested in my old one I could dig it out, can't recall the brand name but its aluminium.

The other thing to remember is Cops in Nelson are fairly hard on these cars without correct plates, stickers are a no go.

I've got the Garagestar Type I bracket. Fixes onto the baby teeth or the mounting point for them.

in the revised 2011 regulations, stick on plates are now no longer illegal. carry a copy of them in your car...
at the very least you have a very good defence for the absurdly high fine..

There's a button on my keyring to put it down and another to pop it up... Haven't installed it as I want to put the new bumper on first

No...not electronic...but I like the idea.
It has been hinged for about 14 years with no dramas what so ever.
It lifts up at 40k and drops when I get pulled over! I haven't been pinged yet...but have left a few traffic officers sratching their heads...

Pretty sure you just get a standard door hinge from a hardware shop and screw it to your bumper

I've heard not such good reviews about that one tbh. People usually say that the bracket is too weak, it gets stuck, it folds over etc. Check before you buy that one.
